UAW members ratify contract with steering parts supplier Nexteer

THE MOTOR CITY -- UAW-represented employees accepted a brand new labor agreement with Nexteer Automotive Corp. almost two months after overwhelmingly rejecting a prior offer and participating in a-one-day strike.
UAW Local 699, which represents workers at Nexteer's Saginaw, Mich., plant, mentioned in a Facebook post early today that 61.4% of employees voted in support of the offer, compared with 38.6% who voted "no."
The vote uses 97-percent of employees rejected a prior offer on Dec. 6, which later led to a-one-day strike that threatened to shut-down some Us creation at Gm and other auto makers. The Saginaw plant makes various steering wheels and associated parts.
The offer expires on March 20, 20 20, and characteristics greater wages for many workers compared to last deal. In addition, it trashes a contentious healthcare provision in the aged offer that could experienced workers giving to PPO programs, among other modifications.
Creation workers will soon be compensated between $15.88 and $18.69 hourly by the end-of the five-yr offer. The variety in the discarded deal was between $15.85 and $17.25. Wages will increase between $1 and $2 hourly up on ratification.
The deal trashes a preceding provision that could have required workers on PPO healthcare plans to pay just as much as $350 each month in contributions. The newest contract calls for workers to give nothing toward both the PPO or HMO programs.
Other variations include a $2,000 signing reward, up from $1,500, workers being able to defer vacations into the next calendar-year and adjustments in holiday or help time from the preceding contract.
Vote occurred over two times following two times of informational conferences, a marked sharp contrast to the oneday voting period and roll-out for the initial contract.
Nexteer is rated No. 68 on Automotive News' listing of the top 100 global suppliers with $2.9 billion in revenue to auto makers in 2014.
General Motors initially possessed the company, which afterwards became part of the Delphi Corp. spin-off in 1999. General Motors Company got the company through the Great Recession last year to enable Delphi to come from four years of Chapter 11 bankruptcy defense.
The company now is possessed by Chinese traders Pacific Century Motors, which got control of the business in 2010 after General Motors sold it for $440 million.
Nexteer employs 12,000 employees world-wide and supplies steering and drive-line systems to car companies including General Motors, Fiat-Chrysler, Ford Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. The firm intends to shift its business headquarters this summer from Saginaw to Auburn Hills, Mich., north of Detroit.
