VW hires Daimler's compliance chief to manage diesel scandal

FRANKFURT -- (Bloomberg) -- VW hired a conformity leader having a reputation for stamina from competing Daimler to assist stem the side effect of the diesel-discharges cheating scandal shattering the auto-maker.
Daimler's Christine Hohmann-Dennhardt, 65, will dominate a newly developed administration board position for integrity and legal matters on Jan. 1, 2016, Volkswagen said in a statement.
Within an uncommon move, Volkswagen's new chairman, Hans Dieter Poetsch, requested his counter part at Daimler, Manfred Bischoff, to consent to the first conclusion of her agreement.
"We're pleased that Dr. Hohmann Dennhardt has consented to undertake this responsible job and that we are able to build on her exceptional competence and expertise," Poetsch stated in the declaration. "At the exact same time we want to thank Daimler for consenting to our petition to the first conclusion of Dr. Hohmann Dennhardt's deal."
Hohmann Dennhardt's contract had been due to to perform until Feb. 28, 2017.
Daimler stated it consented to Volkswagen's petition "in the pursuits of the great corporate governance of the German automotive sector."
Ferdinand Dudenhoeffer, head of the Center of Automotive Research in the University of Duisburg-Essen, stated Daimler is helping Volkswagen to re-build trust in the German car-industry. "It is an essential measure to help Volkswagen clean up the matter," he stated.
Hohmann Dennhardt was made by Daimler in February 2011 to manage compliance, legal matters and ethical dilemmas in the automaker. Prior to this, she served on Germany's constitutional court for 1-1 years as a judge. Daimler enlarged its direction board from six to seven associates to include Hohmann Dennhardt, the primary female direction board member in the firm's history.
