Volkswagen CEO says emissions scandal bill could rise

WOLFSBURG, Germany (Reuters) -- VW might need to set aside over the 6.5 billion euros ($7.4 billion) it's so far assigned to to cover the prices of an discharges scandal if auto sales endure, CEO Matthias Mueller stated.
"The 6.5 billion (EUR) affect the re-call," Mueller told reporters Wednesday after a tour of Volkswagen's main offices here. "I am only able to speculate about any additional provisions. Should there be a change in sales quantities, we'd respond quickly," he stated.
Inquired whether a little number of workers could have alone been responsible for the misrepresentation, Mueller stated: "we're still deep at the center of the clarification, for example, inquiry of the potential perpetrators and causes."
Mueller, who replaced former CEO Martin Winterkorn a week following the scandal broke, stated the investigations were "comparatively substantial and complex" and returned to 2005.
Lower Saxony leading Stefan Weil, a VW supervisory board member, stated VW sales were steady in Oct so significantly.
Volkswagen supported it'd discontinued the deal inside the EU of new diesel automobiles comprising the application program that will cheat diesel emissions checks.
Volkswagen declared on Sept. 18 it used unlawful computer software to control emissions checks on diesel automobiles in America, triggering the largest company disaster in its background.
The entry has wiped of a quarter off its stock market-value, forced out its longtime leader and started investigations and court cases around the globe.
