Zagato previews Maserati-powered Mostro coupe

Zagato - among the last remaining Italian coachbuilders - has declared it is going to show a completely new version in the Villa d'Este Concours d'Elegance which will kick off this weekend in Italy.
Made to observe Maserati's 100th anniversary, the Mostro (a term that actually means "giant" in Italian) is a homage to the exceptionally-aerodynamic Maserati 450 S Coupe Zagato "Beast" that was personally commissioned by aviator Sir Stirling Moss for the 1957 version of the 24 Hrs of Le Mans. The 21st century Mostro rides on a light weight chassis composed of steel subframes bolted into a carbon fiber passenger cell, and its own body is made solely from carbon fibre. Visually, the coupe pays a worthy homage to its predecessor without embracing a full on retro-styled layout. Notably, the doorways are hinged high-up on the a pillar therefore the Mostro forgoes Zagato's trademarked Double Bubble roof panel. Power comes from a Maserati-sourced V-8 engine-mounted in front-middle place but complete technical specs have not been released yet. The 8-cylinder spins the rear wheels by means of a six-speed semiautomatic transmission mounted on the rear-axle, a set up that visibly improves fat distribution. Zagato will assemble only five instances of the Mostro over another few months also it guarantees each one will be streetlegal. Pricing was not declared, but it is of little interest to us because every single case has been spoken for currently. Read Source
