FRANKFURT -- BMW has authorized the launching of a coupe-styled crossover known as the X2 to match the Range Rover Evoque, a a study stated.
The five-door X-2 will require outdoor styling cues including a steeply raked liftback-design tailgate from the bigger, coupe-like X 4 and X6 versions, Autocar reported, citing business resources.
BMW will begin analyzing models of X-2 within months, Autocar stated, mentioning technologists in the automaker's image workshop. The X-2 will start in 2017, the journal mentioned.
A BMW spokesman declined to discuss the report when contacted by Automotive News Europe.
The X-2 will probably be centered on BMW's front wheel drive UKL 1 system like the next generation X-1 and lately started BMW 2-set Active Tourer compact mini-van, the journal mentioned.
BMW is increasing its line as it seeks to battle off Audi and Mercedes Benz, which are equally trying to topple their Munchen-based competition as the planet 's top-selling premium manufacturer.
The X-2 will probably debut as an idea in the Geneva auto-show next March, Autocar stated.
