Chevy EV denied trademark for "Bolt" name
The Chevy Bolt is facing branding problems and could have to modify its name prior to the automobile goes on-sale.
It is not even the very fact that "Bolt" seems too similar to "Volt," the bow-tie manufacturer plug in hybrid vehicle. That problem was concluded in April when General Motors decided to double-down on olt-suffixed names. Instead, the EV compact revealed in Detroit earlier yr is having the smackdown in the US Patent and Trade Mark Office it self.
The US Patent and Trademark Office has suspended the Bolt title since it is currently in use by Yamaha for an entry level cruiser under its Star manufacturer. According to patent and trade mark legislation, if two firms supplying similar or connected products or services use for the exact same logo the earlier applicant triumphs. Yamaha's program was submitted back in 2012, while Chevy submitted in 2014.
As smart as the Bolt-Volt naming scheme might have been, Chevy did admit that it might cause some confusion. At that time, president of GM North America Alan Batey stated they'd until February 2016 to finalize the title,
The Bolt, or whatever it's finally renamed, is likely to hit showrooms in 2017 for about $37,500. The 200-mile range EV is placed to compete together with the Tesla Design 3, which is priced at $35,000.Live pictures by Brian Williams.
