Classic Broncos reach ICON status
1700
Jonathan Ward, Chief Executive Officer of Ca-centered ICON, sells refurbished and modernized traditional 1960s-era Ford Broncos for between $175,000 and $230,000 -- and claims he cannot keep up with demand."We do between 1 2 and 18 per year, and we are sold-out through 2018," he advised Automotive News.Ward does not believe a new edition of the Bronco (see Page 3) will dampen the need for traditional Broncos, which were boxy, stripped down, tough off-highway vehicles that competed with the Jeep Wrangler and its ancestors. "The marketplace has gone nuts for the first Bronco," he stated. ICON, located in La, begins with initial Broncos provided by clients and strips and reconstructs them utilizing the powertrain in the Mustang GT, a contemporary electrical system as well as other new parts. Ward offered one to Jay Leno. STAR worked with Ford to ensure top quality restoration components, and Ward stated there is plenty of excitement within Ford for the nameplate. Ford showcased the ICON Bronco in the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Vegas in 2011. Ford made the first-era Bronco from 1966 to 1977. The O.J. Simpson-design Bronco debuted in 1978. Ford also constructed a Ranger-established Bronco II from 1984 to 1990. The first Bronco, in addition to early Land Rovers, Jeep Wagoneers and Wranglers, has become collectable among seniors.
