Details emerge on BMW's sub-X1 crossover

A fresh report coming out of Germany finds that BMW is in the initial phases of creating an entry level crossover that will slot below the approaching second-gen X-1.
Tentatively christened City Cross, BMW's infant crossover is going to be trained directly at the forthcoming Audi Q1. It is going to share its front-wheel-drive UKL system using the 2-Series Active Tourer, the third gen MINI as well as the aforementioned X-1, a shift which will enable the Munich-based auto-maker to profit from economies of scale. The City Cross will extend only 157 inches long also it is going to apparently feature a glossy, coupe-like roof-line which is freely inspired by the X4 as well as the X6. While that may bring young customers, the cross over major target audience, it'll reduce luggage compartment space to only 11.6 cubic-feet with four occupants on-board. BMW will provide the City Cross with gas- and diesel-burning three- and four-cylinder engines sourced from its parts-bin. Interestingly, an all electric version will join the line later in the generation run and business executives are debating whether to start a gas-electrical plug in hybrid vehicle version. It's too early to tell if a M-tuned City cross will sit in the top of the line. If the rumor proves correct, added details about the BMW City Cross will appear over the forthcoming months. The cross over is going to be introduced in an important auto display late next yr, and it's going to land in showrooms in the 1st half of 2017 using a base cost of EUR25,000, a amount that converts to about $26,500 at the present exchange rate.
Probably assembled in Germany, the City Cross is going to be marketed in Europe as well as in choose Asian markets-including China but it WOn't be offered in America because of the miniature size. Note: 2015 BMW X1 pictured
