Ford spends 5 billion dollars for a new modular platform
Accorkding to the official representatives, the Ford Company has chosen the new strategy, which is needed to pay about 5 billion dollars during five years. The carmaker id working on development of a new modular platform under the codename D6 as well.
The new D6 platform is able to be equipped with different rear-wheel, front-wheel and all-wheel drives. The Ford’s modular platform may be universal as the MQB platform of the Volkswagen Group.
The automaker is planning to use the D6 platform in updated variants of MKT and MKZ. The platform will appear in cars by 2019. However, that platform is not expected to be unique for Lincoln cars, other Ford vehicles will be based on it.
Certainly, that does not mean the auto manufacturer will not produce novelties during the conducting of the strategy for five years. for instance, in two years, we will see a redesigned MKX, which is planned to be a replacement for the MKS. That novelty will be based on the stretched platform used in the MKZ. In addition, there will be a long-wheelbase version, which will be offered only on the Chinese auto market.
The new Lincoln model will be built on the new D6 platform. It will be the totally new Navigator, which is expected in fall in 2017. Moreover, there will be the MKC that gets redesigned and will come on the market in 2018.
The investment is an opportunity for the carmaker to build new luxury brand. Meanwhile, the increasing of the Lincoln’s models selling has also an important meaning for the auto manufacturer.
