The Land Rover manufacturer presented its updated LR2 model of 2013. The updated car got the new four-cylinder turbocharged powertrain, the luxury interior and the brand’s off-road system the Terrain Response.
Currently, the carmaker is working to a new model that is planned to call the Discovery Sport. We are sure you remember the Land Rover Discovery concept, which was presented at the show in New York this year.
As we may notice while testing of the novelty in Germany at the Nürburgring, the Discovery Sport is based on the same platform as the Evoque model. The auto manufacturer plans to launch the novelty at the brand’s plant in the U.K.
In comparison with the Evoque, the Discovery Sport is built on the dubbed LR-MS platform, consists of most new elements. The used platform includes aluminum and some lightweight materials that allow reducing the car’s weight. The Discovery Sport’s exterior is based on the updated design EUCD of Ford as well.
The novelty is available with two powertrains. The first basic one is the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine and the second one, used only in Range Rover sports cars –the 3.0-liter V6 supercharged powertrain.
Despite of the powertrain, the car will be equipped with standard nine-speed automatic gearbox.
This novelty comes on sale next year as a car of 2016 model year. The first version will include only five seats. Then the auto manufacturer will launch the model with seven seats.
Moreover, the carmaker is going to replace the LR4 with a new small model. In addition, the Discovery family will include both subcompact and compact crossovers to expand its presence on the auto market.
The official debut is expected to be at the annual auto show in Paris this October.
