General Motors is developing its new Opel Astra
We would like to remind you that recently the largest auto manufacturer in the world –General Motors has finished developing of its Chevrolet Cruze of 2016 model year. Using the samw compact platform D2XX, the carmaker began working on development of the new Opel Astra, which will be presented as a 2016 model.
We have noticed a prototype of the new five-door hatchback that has similar proportions to the present Astra. However, this camouflaged vehicle does not allow glancing a novelty in details. They say that the style of the car’s front part may be similar to the Opel Adam.
The renewed Astra will be also available in sedans, wagons and GTC coupes versions as well. The auto manufacturer equips the novelty with the brand’s powertrains Ecotec of the next generation, which include three-cylinder and four-cylinder both gasoline and diesel engines. Moreover, perhaps a hybrid version may be also possible.
As you may remember the present Astra model was first launched in 2009, then it got the mid-cycle upgrade in 2012. Thus, we may expect launching the novelty by next year or 2016. Meanwhile, we will see first the novelty, when it is presented at the show in Frankfurt the upcoming year.
The Opel Astra is brought to the European auto market but the same model will come to Australia as the Holden brand’s car. Moreover, the new Astra may be considered as a basic vehicle for the Buick Verano of the next generation.
