Import brands dominate list of finalists for North American Car and Truck of the Year

The Chevrolet-Malibu, Honda Civic and Mazda MX 5 Miata now were named finalists for the 2016 United States Car of the Year, as well as the Honda Pilot, Nissan Titan XD and Volvo XC90 were named truck finalists.
The finalists -- five of the six planning to import manufacturers -- were declared today at an Automotive Press Association lunch in The Motor City. The 2016 United States Car and Truck of the Year will likely be introduced in January at the Detroit autoshow.
The finalists are selected from shortlists of 10 automobiles and 12 pick-ups and sport utility vehicles made with a jury of 5 3 automotive journalists. The BMW 7-series, Cadillac CT6, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet Volt, Kia Optima, Nissan Maxima and Toyota Prius were the other automobiles on the shortlist.
The Ford Edge, Honda HRV, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Renegade, Kia Sorento, Lexus RX, Mazda CX3, Tesla Model X and Toyota Tacoma were the other trucks and sport utility vehicles on the shortlist.
Vehicles have to be new or substantially changed to meet the requirements for the prizes. They can be judged on innovation, design, security, worth, comfort, driver fulfillment as well as other variables.
The Vw Golf and Ford F150 won the 2015 Auto and Truck of the Year awards, respectively.
Gm and Ford direct all other auto makers with 10 wins because the award's inception in 1994. Fiat Chrysler, Honda, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Hyundai and Volkswagen have each won several awards.
The judging panel comprises Automotive News reporter Richard Truett. Jurors pay yearly dues to underwrite the opposition's prices so that you can preserve freedom.
The panel generates the shortlists in the first autumn before voting on these automobiles in early December. Jurors are provided 25 points to allocate to both automobiles and trucks, offering no more than ten points to anyone car.
Jurors are provided 10 points in every single group when it votes on the finalists. Jurors can give all 10 factors to an individual vehicle or divide them up.
