Kenyan Uber driver ambushed, car torched

NAIROBI, Kenya -- An Uber automobile was ambushed and combusted emphasizing an escalation of pressure between traditional cab operators and motorists of the trip-sharing program, a Kenyan police official said MondayThe Uber motorist was hurt in the strike Sunday evening when his automobile was blocked by still another automobile with four attackers, said Nairobi police chief Japhet Koome, who assured tough police action from the violence. Authorities have received complaints from Uber motorists of harassment by cab operators but the burning of an Uber auto signifies an escalation, mentioned Koome. The event happened even as authorities interior ministry and manager of rivalry are mediating the trade conflict involving the competing groups, he said."Permit me make it quite clear that any individual engaged in functions of lawlessness will probably be dealt with sternly relative to regulations. We've got an established mechanism of resolving differences of opinion, and lawlessness isn't among these," Internal Security Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho warned yesterday after assembly with cab and Uber representatives. Cab operators in Kenya earlier this month requested the authorities to halt the functions of Uber, which has gain popularity due to its more affordable fares."we're operating with all applicable stakeholders in Nairobi and Kenya to conclude this as an issue of urgency.
