Marchionne approached GM about a merger, but was rebuffed, NYT reports

DETROIT (Reuters) -- Included in his quest to get a mega merger, Fiat-Chrysler Vehicles Leader Sergio Marchionne sent a message to General Motors CEO Mary Barra in March indicating joining the car companies but was rebuffed, the New York Times noted on Saturday.
Quoting two individuals with knowledge of the e-mail, the The Days stated it step-by-step how international carmakers needed to merge to save lots of cash and proposed a combined GM and Fiat-Chrysler would reduce billions of dollars in prices and make an automotive large.
The disclosure was no shock considering the fact that that Marchionne continues to be competitive and community in his continuing quest to get the car industry to merge.
Reuters first noted on April-13 that Marchionne, who heads the world's seventh-biggest carmaker, was considering a superb amalgamation, perhaps in America, to stop up his firm's weaknesses and cement his heritage before stepping-down in early 2019.
