Reveal of the latest Porsche 911 Carrera GTS
This year the Porsche 911 lineup has been added by both all-new Carrera GTS coupe and convertible. That model is oriented to customers who prefer anything sportier than the current Carrera and Carrera S versions but, at the same time, those customers have not been ready for Turbo and GT3 variants.
Both GTS versions are expected to come on sale by the end of this year as cars of 2015 model year. The carmaker has declared prices for novelties: the basic price for the convertible variant is 127,095 dollars and the coupe variant is from 115,195 dollars as well.
Standard drive for both novelties is rear-wheel-drive; however, the all-wheel-drive may be offered as an optional feature for extra 6,700 dollars.
What is the difference between the regularly Carrera and GTS version? If we are looking at the novelty, we may notice the Carrera GTS is wider than the common version in spite of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive is equipped.
The exterior also includes bi-xenon headlights, exhaust pipes in black chrome and customized GTS air intakes.
The interior is offered in leather Alcantara trim as a distinguishing feature of all Porsche GTS models as well.
The GTS version is equipped with a similar 3.8-liter six-cylinder flat engine as the Carrera S has, but that powertrain has the output of 430 horsepower instead of 400 horsepower as the Carrera S produces. The novelty also gets the Powerkit, which is offered with brand’s sport exhaust system and sport Chrono pack. Moreover, there is the PASM active damper system as standard.
Besides a booster powertrain, the Carrera GTS is equipped with the standard seven-speed manual and the PDK dual-clutch gearbox is also available. Owing to the powertrain, the GTS version accelerates from 0 mph to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds that is faster than the Carrera S. the maximum speed is from 187 mph to 190 mph, which depends on the gearbox. However, in spite of the extra performance, the novelty has similar fuel consumption as the Carrera S.
The official debut of the 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS takes place in Los Angeles in November. Now the Porsche 911 lineup consists of 19 models. Probably, soon we will see a replacement for the GT3 RS and GT2 of the last generation. Meanwhile, the carmaker is preparing to introduce the all-new Targa GTS.
