The Peugeot brand is on its way to expand the lineup of the performance models. You remember as two years ago, the carmaker introduced the GTI variant of the 208 model. Later, in 2013, the new RCZ coupe model appeared with the new “R” index. Finally, at the European Car of the Year of 2014 we will be acquainted with the new 308 high-performance version.
At the Frankfurt show of last year, Peugeot presented its new 308 R concept car, which was equipped with the borrowed 1.6-liter four-cylinder powertrain, producing the power of 270 horsepower. That engine was also used in the previous RCZ R. There, the 308 R was presented, too. Now, when Peugeot introduces the novelty, there is a place for the R variant in the future.
The new 308 GTI has the performed braking system, wheels and tires. The novelty gets redesigned bigger intakes and the new dual-exhaust pipes.
The GTI version is equipped with the similar engine to the RCZ R –the 1.6-liter powertrain, which is able to issue the output from 270 horsepower.
The standard pack includes the six-speed manual transmission and the front-wheel-drive. However, the automaker plans to equip the car with the all-wheel-drive as an optional feature.
The auto manufacturer will officially introduce the novelty at the show in Paris this October.
Sales on the other auto markets in the world begin at the beginning of next year. Unfortunately, the U.S. auto market will not have the Peugeot 308 GTI.
