Toyota will launch the concept TE-Spyder hybrid
Do you remember the MR2 roadster of Toyota, which was produced long time ago? We guess you do. This small and fast enough model is equipped with a 1.8-liter engine that allows the convertible tiny car to be a rebel among cabrio vehicles.
Undoubtedly, you know the Toyota Prius, which became the best hybrid car in the world in a short time.
Now the Toyota manufacturer plans to combine both these cars into one, which will include advantages of MR2 and Prius as well.
However, visitors of the recent auto show, which took place in Tokyo this year, had a great opportunity to glance at a hybrid concept named TE-Spyder 800 as a result of combination Prius and MR2.
This concept is built on the third generation of Midship runabout series of Toyota. The TE-Spyder is equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, which is able to produce the power of 116 horsepower and the electric motor borrowed from the Prius. In addition, the carmaker decided not to be stingy and put the brand’s electronic-continuously variable gearbox in the hybrid concept.
Due to the powertrain and transmission, the car is able to accelerate from 0 mph to 62 mph in 5.8 seconds.
The car weighs about 2,200 lbs; the exterior looks more as the Mr2 has but the interior is similar to the present Prius version. However, as we may notice, this concept looks more like the S660 concept launched by Honda.
The TE-Spyder includes the best characteristics of sports and green vehicles; that is the good reason to start production of this hybrid concept car.
