As 2015 fades to black, Volkswagen and Chipotle Mexican Grill likely wish they are able to get a do over. Both manufacturers endured through PR disasters this year which have taken a significant toll on customer understanding and whose side effect will probably continue into 2016.
But which business do worse?
Volkswagen -- which is still coming to grips with the emissions-cheating scandal that broke in September -- found its consumer comprehension score plummet from a rating of 10 to the day the news broke into a low of -50 on Oct. 2, according to the YouGov BrandIndex, which monitors day-to-day consumer awareness. The auto-maker rating stood at -24 recently a week ago.
Chipotle, which will be coping using some of sickness outbreaks associated with its meals, co-incidentally also had a rating of 10 to the day its terrible news broke. However, the restaurant chain hasn't dropped as far as Volkswagen, at least not however. Its rating fell into a low of -26 on Nov. 8 with a rating of -13 recently a week ago, according to YouGov.
Naturally, Chipotle is reeling from more recent report that started circulating early the other day of a norovirus outbreak connected to some Chipotle restaurant near Boston University that had sickened 141 pupils, based on media reports a week ago. That arrived after an E. coli outbreak that started in October that changed 52 individuals from nine U.S. states, including 4-7 individuals who stated they ate at a Chipotle cafe. The eruption led to a same-store sales decrease of 16% in November.
"Chipotle is on two strikes -- one more well-being associated outbreak also it strikes out in the tribunal of popular opinion with considerable standing injury to handle. Let us see what the results are because actions speak louder than words. It is time to meet the point of 'foods with ethics,' Stephen Hahn-Griffiths, U.S. vice-president of strategy consulting at Standing Institute, said in a statement a week ago.
Volkswagen is reeling since the Environmental Protection Agency on Sept. 18 said the auto-maker installed alleged defeat apparatus on approximately 482,000 automobiles in the United States of America in an effort to evade discharges testing. The problem led to A - 25% revenue fall in VW brand revenue last month at Volkswagen of America. While the business is nearing regulatory acceptance to get a low cost repair for some 8.5 million autos in Europe, its suggestions are still under evaluation in the US, where regulation is more rigorous.
