Yaris-R hybrid at the Frankfurt Auto Show
This week in Frankfurt, the Toyota brand introduced its new hybrid concept car Yaris Hybrid-R. The novelty is based on the current Yaris model with using the brand’s special technology, which was developed for TS030 Hybrid Le Mans.
The presented car is not a production model just a prototype for the future hybrid models.
The future hybrid sports cars, the Japanese auto manufacturer is planning to build with the German company TMD that specialized in F1 vehicles, but now it works at the Le Mans project jointly with Toyota. The TMD is developing high-powered engines for Yaris hybrid-R.
The Global Race Engine, developed by TMD, is only a 1.6-liter unit, but it is expected to produce about 300 horsepower.
The car is equipped with the complicated system, which allows powering all wheels. The main engine gives the power to the front axle, the rear axle is powered by two electric; the third electric motor works as the generator and making energy. Super cars such as Ferrari and LaFerrari have alike power systems.
We have to have patience and wait for the day, when we will be able to see this technology in serial cars. Probably, it may happened soon…
