The Lada Niva or VAZ2121 (Russian: Lada Niva, Niva (niva) is the Russian term for "harvest area") is an offroad car assembled by Soviet/Russian automaker AvtoVAZ. The automobile is quite popular in its home region. In Australia, recognition is restricted because the vehicle is made for a quite diverse environment and therefore things for example ac were omitted in the specs, restricting its allure.

September 2012 manufacturing started in 1977 and finished on 21, being replaced by the X-ray concept-car.
In simple form, the Niva has a carbureted 1.6litre overhead-cam fourcylinder petrol engine creating 54 kW (72 hp) and 126 N--m (93 pounds--feet), a four- or fivespeed manual-transmission, and fulltime fourwheel drive. The fourwheel drive system uses three differentials (center, front and back), much like manualtransmission Toyota FJ Cruisers. There are really no locking hubs. The transfer-case requires a central differential lock lever plus a high / low range selector lever. Low-range could be chosen with the differential locked or unlocked. Its towing ability is rated for approximately 860 kg (1900 pound).

A 1.7litre petrol engine was launched later in creation, as was singlepoint fuel-injection provided initially by GM. For now the back hatch was revised to get a lower opening. Multipoint fuel-injection created by Bosch is employed now since 2004. In certain markets a 1.9L Peugeot XUD diesel-powered Niva was offered.

The brakes (disc front, drum back) are servoassisted double-circuit style and also the clutch is hydraulic. The turning circle, at 36.25' is acceptable, whilst the center of gravity is special. Cargo area is 0.48 m? (17 feet?), or 1.33 m? (47 feet?) with the back seats folded down. A spare tyre is situated within the engine bay underneath the bonnet, and just like all Ladas, a 21 bit toolkit can be furnished for doit-yourself roadside repairs. The latter feature is thought to be a practical and useful feature by enthusiasts.
