Chevy Colorado to get 30-mpg diesel engine
Gm is apparently preparing to accept the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, with ideas to include an oil burner to the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon.
The mid-size stable mates will not be be an apples-to-apples competition against Chrysler's full size pick-up, but the size difference could give General Motors an advantage as it tries to win the mpg challenge. To dethrone the Ram EcoDiesel, the Colorado will have to reach a town/highway rating of at least 22/30 mpg. The effort is anticipated to be realized using a 2.8-liter four-cylinder Duramax motor, which will probably generate 181 hp and 369 lb-feet of torque, according to a Vehicle and Driver report. The power-plant is almost 60 ponies and 50-lb-feet of torque unsure of FCA's 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel factory, but the Colorado and Canyon are about 1,000 pounds lighter than the Ram 1500.The present Colorado maxes out at 20/27 mpg with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder motor, reaching better highway and mixed standings than the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. The newest F150 is also on the list of fuel-sippers in the fullsize section, with a 19/26 mpg standing. The diesel-run Colorado and Canyon are likely to be around only using a six-speed automated transmission when they arrive in showrooms someday this autumn. Pricing remains uncertain, but the oil-burner will probably bring in substantial premium on the conventional versions.
