New Ford Explorer might be based on the rear-wheel-drive platform
In a year or about that, the Lincoln auto manufacturer launches the new MKX, which becomes the replacement for the large sedan MKS as well.
In addition, the Ford Motor Company has declared to renewed its lineup by 2020. There will be two novelties and Lincoln is working on the new crossover built of the rear-wheel-drive platform.
The carmaker says the new crossover will be a copy of the Ford Explorer of the next generation. Probably, that crossover will replace the MKT, which based on the D4 platform including the front-wheel-drive.
Most likely, the Ford automaker is going to back to rear-wheel-drive models equipped with the all-wheel-drive option. The carmaker is working on improving the next Explorer that may be offered for police fleets, for example. The new platform is also a difference between the newest Lincoln crossover and Explorer and the current MKX and Edge.
We know the next Ford Explorer will get a new lighter aluminum body such as the newest pickup F150 has. The Lincoln’s crossover will be also treated in lightweight.
