VW Group picks Garcia Sanz to oversee handling of diesel scandal

MUNCHEN -- Vw has decided among its most seasoned executives, Francisco Javier Garcia Sanz, to supervise the clean-up of its own diesels scandal. The auto-maker also named Skoda's Frank Welsch as VW manufacturer new head of specialized development.
Garcia Sanz, 5 8, will supervise the "orderly processing of the diesel problem," along with his job as VW Team procurement leader, the firm said in a statement.
Garcia Sanz control over his job as VW manufacturer procurement chef to Ralf Brandstaetter, 4-7, a 22-yr VW team veteran that has been head of buying for new product starts since 2012.
The changes take immediate effect, Volkswagen said.
Welsch succeeds Heinz-Jakob Neusser, whom reviews stated had been suspended because the discharges scandal broke in September. Neusser will stay accessible to take on additional duties in the organization, the statement mentioned.
Garcia Sanz has been VW Team procurement head since 2002 when the team function was added to his employment as VW manufacturer procurement chef he had held since 1996. The Madrid-born executive had previously worked for General Motors' Opel department.
Welsch, 51, joined VW Team in 1994 and has been head of technical development at VW Team Czech subsidiary company Skoda since 2012.
VW Group has acknowledged that up to 1 1 million VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat diesel automobiles sold globally may have prohibited applications to deceive evaluations for NOx emissions. U.S. regulators have also focused 85,000 VW, Audi and Porsche versions with 3.0-liter V6 diesel engines fitted with emissions-control products that wasn't correctly revealed.
Analysts say the expense of the scandal could top-40 billion euros ($44 billion) for fines, court cases and car re-fits.
Volkswagen additionally made Karlheinz Blessing, CEO of German steelmaker Dillinger Huette, as new staff leader. Blessing can get a five-year deal and change 66-year old Horst Neumann who retired on Nov. 30
