Audi is planning to launch the diesel hybrid models to reduce CO2 emissions
The Audi carmaker declared plans to produce new diesel hybrid cars to leave behind its main rivals –BMW and Mercedes.
According to the auto manufacturer, the first diesel hybrid models come on the auto markets the upcoming year. The novelty is planned to be equipped with the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine with the electric motor. This new hybrid powertrain will be used in the Q SUV lineup and the A8 sedan as well.
The carmaker is going to sell the new hybrid models in both Europe and the U.S.
The first model, which will be equipped with the new powertrain, may be the latest Q7 that is expected on sale next year available with diesel and gasoline units.
Unfortunately, Audi has not announced the date of launching of the hybrid model.
Moreover, the latest Q7 will be based on the new MLB modular architecture developed by the Volkswagen Group for big cars.
Currently, only the Volvo produces its diesel hybrid; the model is based on the diesel V60. Other carmakers launch hybrids, but only based on gasoline engines: Mercedes E-class and S-class, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUV.
