Infiniti is getting ready to roll-out 2014 Q50
The Infiniti renaming scheme does not make lots of perception from a "why" outlook, but it is not all that challenging to obtain to the how--that is, which cars will be changing names. What might be even less challenging is choosing between a new G37 Sedan and a new 2014 Infiniti Q50.
Infiniti is getting ready to roll-out its hotly anticipated 2014 Q50, a vehicle which not only ushers in a brand new alphanumeric naming scheme, it apparently replaces the G37 as the brand's bread-and-butter sport sedan. Which will occur, but not in the short term, as the G37 will continue to be sold and produced along with the Q50, at least for the remainder of the season.
With the 2014 Q50's cost set at only $37,605, the newer, sexier, betterequipped car is about $600 cheaper than the G37 Sedan. The new Q50 appears to be the pick, as the outgoing G37 is an excellent car.
In the flip side, Infiniti's pick to market both cars simultaneously hints at a possibility: the business could be planning to send the majority of the first Q50s in specifications significantly above base spec--meaning a higher cost of entry. That will leave space for the G37 to be the brand's lowcost, entrylevel auto.
Why keep the older version? For now, Infiniti remains deciding whether to continue G37 sedan production beyond the 2013 model year, and some of the might rely on the arrival time of its new entrylevel frontwheel drive version, anticipated to be dubbed Q30.
A choice will probably be produced over the next several months. Adding to the confusion, the present G37 Coupe and Convertible will probably be instantly rebranded as the 2014 Q60 Coupe and Convertible, even though they'll not be predicated on the new Q50.
Whatever comes of the scenario, you can get the first 2014 Infiniti Q50s August 5 to reach dealerships.
