New details of 2015 Volkswagen Passat are revealed
Volkswagen revealed the latest Passat in a sedan and wagon variants. Both novelties are representatives the B8 of the eighth generation, which will be introduced in Paris this October. We will see the updates of Passat of 2012 model year in a middle od cycle for 2016 model year as well.
The new Passat gets new powertrains, the newest assist systems including infotainment and less weight. In addition, the updated model will be available in plug-in hybrid and electric versions.
The novelty drops the weigh by 187 pounds owing to the new lighter platform MQB made of aluminum and hot-formed steel. The less weigh improves the car’s fuel efficient by 20 per cent.
The overall size of the novelty is shrunk a little bit, but the interior space is improved. The carmaker has promised more space for legs and in a trunk.
The new Passat will be available with ten different powertrains including the new 2.0-liter four-cylinder twin turbocharged diesel unit, which produces the power of 236 horsepower and the torque of 368 lb-ft. That powertrain is able only with the new seven-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox and all-wheel-drive 4MOTION.
Other versions are equipped with standard the six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive.
In addition, the auto manufacturer is working on development a plug-in hybrid version of Passat. The hybrid one will be equipped with a gasoline engine issuing the output of 154 horsepower and the electric motor of 107 horsepower. The hybrid variant will have the total output of 207 horsepower and the electric drive only range of about 31 miles.
The interior includes some latest features that we have already met in the new Lamborghini Huracán; there is the Volkswagen’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The novelty gets a new head-up display, the latest infotainment system, the brand’s parking assist system and other options.
Safety technologies include the emergency assist, traffic-jams assist, side and rear traffic alert, the newest front assist system including the city emergency braking and other systems, which make driving the new Passat more comfortable and safety.
