Volkswagen announced the price for the 2014 Passat
Volkswagen presents its new 1.8-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with the direct injection for the American market. The first model that will get it is the Passat of the next year.
The carmaker promises that the 1.8 engine may produce the same power as a 2.5-liter engine and the output will be 170 horsepower with the torque of 184 lb-ft.
All 2014 Passat cars are planned to get this new type of engines regardless of package arrangements. The basic 1.8T S that has a five-speed manual gearbox will cost 21,715 dollars. The 1.8T Wolfsburg edition with the six-speed automatic gearbox will have the price of 24,785 dollars. The SE models is expected to cost from 25,295 to 28,375 dollars.
The replacement of a 1.8-liter engine for a 2.5-liter one may be explained by the economy fuel consumption –from 25 to 28 mpg.
The version that has the five-speed manual gearbox accelerates from 0 mph to 60 mph for 7.5 seconds; the six-speed automatic does this distance in 7.9 seconds.
